Ideas I find interesting...

A finite volume of space-time can be (exactly) described by a finite amount of information (proportional to the surface area of that volume).

  • (See "Information in the Holographic Universe" by Jacob D. Bekenstein LJ:REF_SCIAM:1190)

The fundamental unit of information is the quantum-bit or qubit.

  • (See "Rules for a Complex Quantum World" By Michael A. Nielsen LJ:REF_SCIAM:948)

Biological machines are (always) nanomachines.

  • (See "The Once and Future Nanomachine" by George M. Whitesides LJ:REF_SCIAM:451)

Nanomachines are (sometimes) biological machines.

Hmm? Tell me more! What exactly have you done here? Is this software you've written?

Anytime Holography gets mentioned... my curiosity gets piqued (yeah, I know you're not doing quantum gravity, but still!).

Cool beans.

I've announced the Quantum Coreworld here.

PS. Sorry we missed each other over the Holidays.

erm... I don't remember if I actually was able to send a comment a long time ago... but I guess I'll have to do so again because I must have friended you for the longest time without your knowledge.

Anyway, my name is Victor, and I came across your LJ for some reason that presently escapes me...

I guess I just saw your LJ, and I found what you were doing to be a really cool thing, even if I couldn't understand all of it. I'm a 20 year old communications student who dabbles in a bit of everything, including trying to understand quantum mechanics and other hard to understand scientific ideas (from the really small to the really big, to what happened BEFORE the big bang, etc.), and I was hoping that, perhaps someone of your abilities wouldn't mind lending an inquiring mind some help.

I'm not really sure if I can buy any of the books you suggest, but I'm more than willing to read and ask questions and generally learn from you, should you be willing to impart your knowledge. ^_^

Oh, and if I may, how do I go about joining your community. I know I might not be able to pick up the books, but I'd certainly like to be a part of the community and learn from discussion.

Anyway sir, thanks for taking time to read this.

I hope you shall reply favorably.

Ciao!

Victor

Generally speaking the links that start with "LJ:REF_*" have full-text so you can read them on-line. If you want to try the simulator you'll need a computer that runs Linux or you can wait until a Windows version becomes available.

Welcome to my web-log!

Thank ye kindly.

If it's quite alright, may I keep you on my friends list?

Also... what exactly would be the first task for one such as myself?

First, you can certainly keep me on your friends list.

Second, why not read the articles I posted and ask some questions?

I think it's safe to say that I have no idea what you're talking about here. However, you should defintely friend me at this journal, especially since I'm the one who took that lovely picture of you ;)

You are very silly. But I'll still get you juice when you are in need. =^)

I misspelled "definitely!" I hate it when people do that. At least I didn't type "definately."

And I am silly.

And I may have found someone to procure my apple juice on a slightly longer term basis. I'll keep you updated.

We should visit you in NYC or you should visit us in Boston again. We have a guest-bedroom now.

In re: the first of these: Bousso has a new article (hep-th/0402058) on relating the general covariant holographic bound to the Bekenstein bound and the Heisenberg uncertainty principle. Very interesting read, and I suspect a very fruitful direction...

Links and thoughts on Information Physics, Holographic Principle and "Singularity" have been playing a leading roll on my blog recently. I've tried to explain things a way that my parents can understand - not sure if I quite got there, but

Just thought I'd hURL you a link to my page, to make contact - you probably have plenty of people to talk about this stuff with - I tend to get blank stares...

have a look.

cheers,

Thanks for the note. You've probably already come across my "artificial ecology" at http://science.fiction.org ; the goal is to engineer, or discover, a toy quantum lifeform The ecology is accessible to anyone with an Internet browser and in the next few weeks I should be making another announcement about it...
