I am currently the only LJer listing 'freegardeners'. How soon will that change?

Also: tried to call you but kept connecting to my VM. Your and my cell phones cross wires in the strangest ways when you're travelling. Will tell you all about Friday in an email when I'm not too tired...

Hey Sasha haven't talked for a long time (we met in a Berkeley cafe a long while back), finally found you here through a memeland.org search. Small virtual world, eh?

How are your studies coming along? I assume it's fine. My work is getting busier and busier, though kind of less and less fulfilling. The competition between AMD and Intel is absolutely cut-throat right now and the deadlines are crazy. The "megahertz wars" is nothing compared to the "multicore wars" that's coming up shortly. Yeah, whatever. As long as I still get to keep my job I'm okay.

As for philosophy, I'm kinda done with it. This is my very last piece of rant that I have written, back in April I think:

http://www.geocities.com/nanikore.rm/logic.html

...It basically tosses logical validity, at least in a realist sense, down the flusher. It's all instrumentalism from there when that happens. In order for logic to work we have to assume that "something is what it is and it's going to be pretty much what it is last time the next time I refer to it too." I think logic is practically somewhat true but intuitively whacked.

Just dropped in to say hi. See ya later, happy holidays.

"Just dropped in to say hi. See ya later, happy holidays."

Great to hear from you! I've thought of you often. (I don't meet that many people on LJ first and then in real life.)

On the topic of philosophy, I've promised my thesis committee some results by April. I think I can demonstrate that an evolving (quantum mechanical) biosphere can accumulate information in the "quantum " portion of the world so that, eventually, the number of bits required to simulate the quantum part exceeds the classical part. I'm not making any claims about our biosphere but interesting things seem to be possible in my toy world.

I'm thinking of visiting the West coast again quite soon. I will let you know if it comes together.

Sasha

PS. Is Gail off LJ for good?

I saw your old Coreworld poster. Looks pretty cool :) It reminds me of that Scientific American article about multiverses (how there are only so many ways all the particles in our universe can be arranged, and because the density of the universe is pretty even there has to be other universes right outside of ours etc)

She switched accounts quite a few times because of privacy concerns, and now she's "tangyapple". Drop a note in her journal and she'll get to it sooner or later- I'm sure she'll be very glad to hear from you since we've had those "uhhhh so WHERE'S SASHA" conversations :)
